Episode #65: Brad Ingelsby: Screenwriter and Film Producer
After a little hiatus, my podcast is back! I am super excited to share my conversation with Brad Ingelsby – an American screenwriter and film producer from right outside of Philadelphia! Many people may be familiar with his recent success with HBO hit show Mare of Easttown which was nominated for 16 Emmys. Throughout our conversation, Brad takes us on his career journey in the screenwriting/film industry.
We start at the very beginning where he tells us about his childhood in the Philadelphia suburbs and all of the incredible values his parents instilled in him and his 4 siblings. Brad always gravitated towards film but it wasn’t until he was in college at Villanova that he took a screenwriting class that peaked his interest. So after college, he taught at a local grade school for 1 year while applying to film schools on the side.He was accepted into the American Film Institute in LA so moved there for 2 years. After graduating from AFI, he moved back to Philly and worked in insurance and wrote on the side. At the age of 27, he had his first big break when he sent one of his screenplays to an agent in LA called The Lou Dweller which eventually became Out of the Furnace starring Christian Bale in 2013.
After this big break, Brad and his wife moved back to LA and he was off to the races. In 2015, he wrote Run All Night starring Liam Neeson and Ed Harris, in 2018 he wrote American Woman starting Sienna Miller, in 2019 he wrote Our Friend starring Dakota Johnson, Jason Segel and Casey Affleck, and in 2020 he wrote The Way Back starring Ben Affleck. And in 2021, he switched gears to TV series and wrote the incredible Mare of Easttown series starring Kate Winslet. Please enjoy!
